Need a fun bar graphs activity that requires real-life data collection? This free bar graphs activity will get your students out of the four walls of the classroom and into the outdoors.

Bar Graphs Activity

Students will go to the Staff Car Park and graph the car colors.  They will have the opportunity to use tally marks to collect and represent the data. This data collection will then be used to construct a bar graph.

A set of questions on two sheets will scaffold the collection of data. Students will then interpret the collected data represented in the bar graph.

Students can also discuss their finding with the whole class as a culminating reflection activity.

Teacher sample data collection sheets are also included for you to have a better idea of the activity.

Not only will learning be more realistic but it will also be a welcome change, perhaps from the daily routine.

Separate files featuring both British English and US spellings and terminology included.

If you’re looking for a fun way to introduce your students to Bar Graphs, then this graphing activity will be perfect!
